See reuben's blog

He had a rant about Christian Hardcore, it makes for interesting reading and discussion.

In other news , parachute artists have been announced, and you've probably all heard who,
and I am really looking forward to Samstock.

On tuesday went to a gig at Zebedees. good music, good times, about 8 bands, and about 8 people who weren't in one of them.

Oh yeah, Today Churndogg is playing in a jazz band somewhere in the music department at 1pm.

Samstock and Chocolate

Samstock
They've finally added more bands to the line up on samstocks website, have a look, samstock.org.nz then the link to the 2004 site. There's even an international band (from hawaii of all places)

Battle of the bands
It seems the pop punk won out, Ample Cleavage are off to the Nationals. Congrats to them. Also Disarm put on a rocking show... A bit more chaos in the mosh pit than normal... good fun!

Chocolate
Seems I owe Lyndon some, for being the only person to post some funny suggestions:
"krusty (75c pies!), sy rogers, waxman (PRIMAL in joke) saponification, Alice Cooper (hes a Christian you know), MC Hammer, apologetix, Benedictine monks - (gregorian chant), staples singers."

Out of the wish lists, I think matt's one is pretty ace:
"Elevator
Jars of Clay
Dead Poetic
Project 86
and Stavesacre would be awesome, like that'll ever happen..."
However he's in auckland, so next best I think is ruth's guess of what would actually happen "Grits, Switchfoot, Telecast, zoegirl (or some other cheesy girl band), Jars of Clay maybe...?" (mainly because it has switchfoot in it)

So sometime, You'll both be getting chocolate, sorry I didn't get it out last week, I've been real busy with uni.

SOooooo Jeremy

From a site Brehaut told me about (www.fourfa.com) that introduces emo

"Live emo bands tend to play with backs to the audience during the quiet parts. During the loud exploding parts, the musicans have a tendancy to jump and shake unpredicatable and knock things over - especially mike stands. Combine this with the fact that the singers often fail to make it to the mike in time to sing, and decide just to scream at the absolute top of their lungs wherever they are when the time comes, means that often entire shows will pass without the audience being able to hear the vocals. If, however, the band has a lot of screaming during the quiet parts, this can be an extremely powerful tactic."

And this is very greg...
"There is also a bias against digital technology within most bands. Emo recordings tend to be analog only, cheaply done, with a tendency toward mostly live tracking with few overdubs. Equipment is heavily weighted toward tube gear. "

exciting

Battle of the Bands
Disarm are through to the Regional Finals which are happening this Thursday, from 9 at the Southern Blues Bar. Also playing are ample cleavage (something to do with DNA repair? (weak biochem geek joke)) a better than average pop punk band (not Christian though) who do a mean cover of the captain planet theme song.

Five bands for Five Bucks
This Friday September 10th, Cloud 9 (upstairs at UCSA) bands are Majera, Pike, Subdued, Disarm and Phyllasoma. Happy Hour is from 8-10 pm, so bring your buddies and buy them a beer (or a Raspberry and Coke)

Life fm album of the week.
For all those who would like to see John Reuben at Parachute, now is the time to pick up his latest album if you can find it or order it from the CD store. It's the album of the week so is only $19.95

Competition
Some cool wish lists, but Lyndon is the only one who has posted anything amusing so far, I'll be keeping it open until Wedensday though. Seeing who picked it right will have to wait until the line up is announced.

Relient K.
Apparently their next album is going to be called "Mmhmm"

News

Well, I just got back from the North Island, where i picked up fireproof remixed by pillar. Not bad for a pop band! I'm listening to it now.

Further seems forever have a new singer and a new album! What's wrong with them? Every album they have a new vocalist! Check out review that brehaut sent me a link to...
http://www.christianitytoday.com/music/reviews/2004/hidenothing.html

Speaking of Brehaut, He is accusing steriogram of being sell outs for promoting mac stuff ( http://www.apple.com/pro/music/steriogram/ ). Still, I'm sure Brehaut are glad they're not promoting microsoft stuff!!

Sorry to anyone who thought they'd get to see disarm last thursday, they moved to tomorrow night instead, cos Jeremy wasn't super well. Anyway, On Friday, to a very small, but devoted crowd, (not really the right word, more like huddle) they show cased some very cool new material. One song sounds a bit like early (pre mainstream) blindside, and another like the edge soloing over the top of an acoustic folkish song. Muchly looking forward to seeing them tomorrow night.
My classmate's band getafix is also playing.
